Vision and Purpose

All thanks to his philosophy of combining business acumen with social change. Despite the setbacks in the past, Varun still continued to commit himself in driving change in the society.
Building Grassroots Impact
Varun and his Hiremath Family Foundation has implemented several innovative programs for empowering communities, ranging from education, technology, health, climate action, to women empowerment
Signature Initiatives
- Digital Dreams Program: We're building tech labs and digital literacy centers, even mobile e-learning buses, through "Project Byte" that are designed to bring coding, design and digital skills to rural youth. For many of these kids, it's their first time ever touching a keyboard, but they're quickly gaining valuable skills that open up new career opportunities. It's all about giving them the tools and knowledge they need to thrive in today's digital world - helping them build a future full of possibilities!
- Young Climate Leaders Fellowship (YCLF): This program provides rural youth with the skills and confidence to undertake projects, such as rainwater harvesting, plastic free drives and local climate action. It aids them in becoming leaders, building valuable skills, and contributing to a positive change in their communities.
- Women’s Empowerment Initiatives: Through targeted workshops, we are empowering hundreds of rural women with valuable financial training and digital payment skills. This helps them to manage their household budgets better or even start up their own small enterprises. It is amazing to see how these skills open up new possibilities and bring long-term improvement to their lives.
- Mobility with Dignity: Smart, terrain-friendly wheelchairs have really opened up new possibilities for people with disabilities. They've helped children get back to school and adults reenter the workforce, providing them with a sense of independence that they may not have had previously. It's amazing to see how something as simple as a wheelchair can make such a huge difference in someone's daily life, and how it can allow them to navigate the world with more freedom.
- Education for All: Foundation scholarships, e-learning centres and new shoes for school children have made a real difference for hundreds of families in Maharashtra and beyond. These efforts have helped to bridge the gap between rural and urban communities, bringing more opportunities to those who need it most.

Explore Varun Hiremath’s impact on rural digital literacy
- Digital Dreams Program: Under this project, over 25 digital labs were set up in rural Maharashtra and Assam - bringing laptops, low-speed internet, typing software, and coding kits into school classrooms and community halls. Young people aged 13-21 years receive practical training in computers, design, document production and basic programming activities during weekdays. The idea of 'Earn While You Learn' modules makes it possible for students to earn in return for providing digital services like banner design and data entry to local businesses. More than 300 families have benefited from the digital services provided by these self-empowered youths and many former school dropouts-especially girls-returned to education after long breaks. The all-encompassing nature (above 50% of enrolment is for girls) of this scheme has instilled confidence and career aspirations among the rural youth.
- Mobile Learning Labs (Project Byte): "Project Byte" is Varun's mobile classroom-on-wheels - buses with laptops, solar modules and preloaded courseware - that visit remote and tribal villages on a rotating schedule. The labs bring tech education, digital safety training, and programming instruction to learners where no regular school exists, all led by local mentors for sustainability. But even in regions where there is no internet, offline-first modules mean no child is left out. The pilot has shown improved confidence, digital literacy and higher school engagement (especially among girls). The goal: scale to 50 villages over the next two years.
- E-Learning & Digital Skills Certification: In villages like Narangi (Alibag), village centres were set up for E-learning for the children from underprivileged sections (to get complete basic education, language, and digital literacy, and to instill pride (through periodic recognition on school and extracurricular grounds). They also plan to add "digital skills certifications" for rural jobs and part-time mentorship roles for older students to guarantee employment and leadership in the community.
- Focus on Women and Community Empowerment: The initiatives targeted digital and financial literacy for rural women, who can now manage their finances, use online payments and even start a business. By being a part of the initiatives, rural women have gained confidence and control over household decisions due to digital skills.
Leadership Philosophy and Results
- Access: Technology delivered to the doorstep of remote communities.
- Ownership: Rural youth and women co-create and lead these programs.
- Sustainability: Training local mentors ensures ongoing impact.
Key Outcomes:
- Over 1,200+ rural teens trained in digital skills.
- More than 500+ rural women empowered with financial and digital literacy tools.
- Hundreds of families report stronger confidence and economic prospects thanks to digital inclusion.
Compare digital literacy rates before and after Hiremath’s programs
